    How Is GATE Exam Different From IES Exam?

    The GATE exam consists of one stage while the IES exam consists of three stages. Both exams stand out in their own ways. Both exams are for engineering but differ day and night, hence changing the opportunities ahead.

    These are complex exams involving many things. But nothing is impossible when grabbing the given chances and making the best out of them. You will have significantly fewer hurdles if you follow specific strategies and have a focused mindset

    GATE Exam

    GATE is an entrance exam IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) conducted to provide Postgraduate engineering admission.

    IES Exam

    IES stands for Indian Engineering Service exam and is a national-level exam conducted by UPSC to hire engineering graduates. IES is also known as ESE (Engineering Service Exam). The candidates who pass two stages (Prelims and Mains) are eligible to participate in the final round.

    • GATE AND IES applicants need to hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering.
    • IES has a specific age limit; meanwhile, GATE doesn’t.
    • IES covers branches of engineering.
    • Job opportunities after both have vast areas.
    • IES exam is comparatively tough because it requires both personality and knowledge.
    • GATE exam usually has concept-based questions. Meanwhile, IES has more formula-based questions.

    GATE exam and IES exam both require an immense amount of effort to pass them with excellent scores. GATE questions can be termed more ‘critical’ than IES because they require deep knowledge of concepts and where to apply them. 

    The candidate can solve IES exam questions using a single concept or formula, but you need multiple concepts and procedures to solve a GATE question. However, IES has a broader syllabus and many applicants comparatively hence increasing the competition much more and narrowing down the selection chances.

    Which Exam is best GATE or IES?

    Based on your relevant skills and interests, decide which exam you want to opt for and which one suits your interest and engross you the best because selecting an exam is a significant decision and makes a difference in your career and life. 

    GATE 2023 needs preparation and you must prepare strategically to complete the syllabus. Have revision notes ready for a quick revision before the final test, and focus on the basics rather than moving straight to the complex problems and prioritizing reading books first rather than online material. It will help you focus on actual points first. Lastly, practicing, revising, and repeating it will help you solve the questions more accurately and efficiently.
